A Client Centered Approach for Therapy in Joplin, Missouri

At Simple Gifts we believe counseling is an investment in your mental and emotional well-being, and we invest a lot of time, energy, and preparation to provide clients with a meaningful experience. There is no insurance billing service provided at this time, but receipts are available upon request. These receipts or “superbills” can be submitted to your insurance for reimbursement for out-of-network therapy.

The following policies are to be observed:

• Payment due at time of service  $140 per session - regardless of whether or not the client intends to submit a claim to their insurance for reimbursement.

• Full payment is expected for an appointment not cancelled within twenty-four hours of your scheduled time slot (exceptions are made for emergencies), unless you are able to reschedule in the same week.

• Following two consecutive cancellations, inconsistent attendance and/or non-payment of fees, your status as a client will be evaluated.

• Any fees incurred due to bad checks will be the responsibility of the client. The fee is $25 per check, subject to change depending on bank fee.

Why don't you directly accept insurance?

 We have decided to not directly file with insurance because it is actually beneficial for our clients in several ways:

• Insurance companies require a diagnosis of the client. At Simple Gifts we believe that a diagnosis can be a disadvantage to some clients who would like to avoid labels. We choose to not officially diagnose clients unless it would help them to receive specific services related to their diagnosis. We find that focusing on solution focused strategies to manage symptoms and overcome obstacles are a good fit for our practice.

• Insurance companies do not typically cover specifically equine assisted psychotherapy. Many companies only reimburse for typical talk therapy and given our high overhead, we cannot operate at those rates. Our overhead costs to offer equine assisted counseling are high: not only in horse care and feeding, but facility costs, equine insurance and practice management. 

• Because we can better serve our clients by utilizing our time in sessions and providing good care for the horses, we do not have the time to work with insurance companies. There are a lot of forms to fill out, long waits on the phone, and hoops to jump through. The expense of hiring additional office staff to perform these duties would only result in increased session rates.
